GDR Group supports Local Government Week 2017

Local Government Week 2017

GDR is supporting this year’s Local Government Week – a time dedicated to celebrating local councils all around New South Wales, between 31 July – 6 August. Local Government Week provides a great opportunity to promote the importance of local councils to communities all across the state.

NSW councils provide invaluable services to local communities, 365 days a year. These services include managing rates, roads and rubbish. However, the breadth and diversity of their work is often overlooked and goes unrecognised. Therefore, this week provides the perfect opportunity to promote the importance and hard work of councils to residents, ratepayers, businesses – the whole community.

Local Government Week is usually celebrated at the end of July/start of August and sees councils across NSW host a great range of events and activities to showcase their day-to-day work to the community.

Examples include:

  • Family fun days
  • Multicultural fairs
  • Photographic competitions
  • Mock council meetings for local students
  • Heritage walks
  • Bush care days
  • Tours of council facilities like art galleries and recreation centres.

A highlight of the week is the ‘Local Government Week Awards’ Evening which celebrates exceptional work carried out by councils across the State. GDR Group are proud to announce that we are this year’s elite sponsor of the Local Government Week Awards Evening, held on August 3, 2017 at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf.

“We are so honoured to be supporting this year’s awards evening,” commented Daizy Gedeon, GDR’s CEO, Managing & Creative Director. “Local Government has always been an important part of our business, so it’s nice to be able to celebrate and support them during this important week.”

GDR Group has been working with Local Government for more than 35 years, supporting the execution of targeted, community-focussed marketing campaigns to help connect local councils with their people.

GDR has worked on a variety of communication campaigns from delivering the General Manager’s messages and announcements to informing communities about cultural and social events and environmental issues.

“We understand how important it is to connect local councils with their communities,” says Daizy. “Each community is different – a complex mosaic of ethnicity, gender, age, sexual preference and more. Once we connect each council with the unique and extensive range of people found in their community, it becomes a lot easier for local government to create an actionable and audible message.”

“The amount of passion and commitment local councils put in the work they do for their communities is phenomenal and it’s nice to have this one week during a year to showcase all that local councils do for their communities.”

GDR would like to wish all the finalists the very best of luck for the upcoming Awards Evening. We’re looking forward to celebrating all your hard work and exceptional involvement in community projects.
